The Mad Dog levels provide something rather important: Untyped bonuses (to hit). Untyped bonuses stack with everything, making them very valuable. The mount would've only been level 1 because Seelah was Paladin 2 / Cavalier 1. To make the mount keep up I took Boon Companion as her level 3 feet. I ended up grabbing more levels of both classes (she's something like Paladin 8 /Cavalier 8 now). Boon Companion made sure the mount stayed up to level through the first 4 levels of Paladin.
